Blood of the Isir Boxed Set

In The Blood of the Isir series to date, Erik Henry Vick has created a vivid, vibrant, totally believable world (several, actually), characters to match and a story that just becomes more and more engrossing. ERRANT GODS Errant Gods does indeed compare favorably to Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, and holds up well to the work of JRR Tolkien. All share the Great Quest, which on the face of things, appears fantastically unlikely to succeed. Yet the heroes persist through countless obstacles and setbacks. I also sense an echo, in Vick’s hero Hank Jensen (possibly the most sympathetic protagonist I've read since Danny Torrance in the Overlook Hotel), of Bill Hodges in King’s Mr. Mercedes cycle. They seem to share the same wounded, damaged, relentless persistence in their journeys, despite how implausible success may seem. I just don’t see that kind of doggedness portrayed -- and so well -- very often. Then there are the “Bristol Butchers”, two of the most appallingly horrifying, just plain Evil-with-a-capital-E antagonists I have ever encountered. And that’s just chapter one. Plenty more to come, never doubt it. In short, Vick sucked me into the dark and detailed worlds of this story in less than twenty pages and never let me go until the very end. The path from here to there was strange indeed, spanning worlds and dimensions, peopled with beings of unknown heritage and abilities. Fortunately, this is only Book One. Book Two can’t come out soon enough for this fantasy/horror fan. ROOMS OF RUIN In Rooms of Ruin, Book Two of The Blood of the Isir series, Erik Henry Vick continues his gripping tale , building more and more tension, action and excitement as he does. I haven’t encountered a new author I’ve enjoyed so much since I first discovered Stephen King all those years ago, nor been enraptured by a series like this since the DT series. I cannot *wait* for Book Three -- but I guess I’ll have to. WENDIGO This prequel to Books One and Two tells the backstory of one mysterious character in the later books and demonstrates the antagonists' horrific ingenuity and delight in human destruction. This can be read first or second, but I suggest reading it third - or at least re-reading it after Book Two. You really can't go wrong. Erick Henry Vick is a masterful storyteller and world-builder, deftly creating and developing characters you wish you could join around the evening campfire, as well as truly malefic monsters from the darkest nightmares. Do yourself a favor and follow this guy. He is already writing an epic tale, I'm sure with much more to come.
